Los Angeles Lakers First To 50

The Los Angeles Lakers are the first NBA team to 50 wins after their thrashing of the Minnesota Timberwolves last night. They are clearly the class of the Western Conference, holding an 8.5 game lead over the second place in conference San Antonio Spurs. The Lakers are once again thriving without young center, Andrew Bynum, as they did last season on their way to the NBA Finals. Thanks to Kobe Bryant's consistent greatness, Pau Gasol's raising of his game (enough to win Western Conference Player of the month for February), and Lamar Odom excelling back in the starting lineup, amongst many things going right for the Lakers, they find themselves in a great place. Perhaps best of all, the Lakers expect Bynum back before the start of the NBA playoffs, which should only enhance the team's chances to not only get to the NBA Finals, but get another championship ring for the franchise.

In the Eastern Conference, both the Boston Celtics (49) and Cleveland Cavaliers (48) are close to 50 wins and strong contenders to make it all the way to the NBA Finals... to perhaps meet the Lakers? Remember, it's not who finishes first when it comes to the NBA playoffs, it's who finishes last.
