The first time Andrew Bynum visited Hawaii, the 17-year-old was trying to find his way around his first training camp with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Two years later, he's looking to assert himself in the competition for the starting center job as the Los Angeles Lakers begin preparations for the season in training camp.
"I've got a lot more experience now," Andrew Bynum said after a practice at the Stan Sheriff Center. "After two years I know what to expect out of training camp. I worked hard this summer and I'm in shape now."
Andrew Bynum entered camp looking to claim the starting job he filled for 53 games last season. Veterans Kwame Brown and Chris Mihm will also compete for the job in the preseason following injury-plagued seasons.
Mihm missed all of last season following surgery on his ankle. Kwame Brown is coming back from shoulder and ankle injuries.
"I'm just taking it slow, don't want to take it too fast and injure myself," Kwame Brown said. "I'm feeling a lot better than I did last year, it's all about consistency now, that I can maintain that high level of play without getting injured."
Best in show: Kobe Bryant does it all the playoffs like they breezed through the first three weeks and Bryant wins championship No. 4. When center Andrew Bynum returns next season, the Lakers will be even better. Factor in the team's youth -- point guard Derek Fisher is the only 30-something

Lakers retain homecourt advantage with 111-104 victory games twice this season, once in November before the team had gelled and once in January after losing Andrew Bynum and before getting Gasol. And ultimately, despite Deron Williams' 27 points and 10 assists, turnover-prone Utah couldn't make it happen now
NBA Expert: Time to stop doubting Hornets yet. If he can be healthy, Portland can get in the mix. The Lakers with the return of Andrew Bynum next season look like the class of the West for the next several years. I wouldn't consider the Spurs too old yet with Parker and Ginobili. And the Hornets
